Save Your Ammunition

When something works, it tends to get shot at. When something works and it is big or highly visible, it tends to get shot at ALOT.

For those who are reading about Granger's U2 series and are already loading their guns, save your ammunition. It's letters like this one I just received that will keep me excited about leveraging pop culture in the church until the day I die:

"My husband and I brought a friend we've been investing in for a couple of years for the first time last week. We've been inviting him for two years and he finally came last week because he's a U2 fan. He came back this week. As we were walking out of service today... he said:

"I never got it before. I'm starting to understand things in a new way. I feel like I have new glasses on. I didn't know it could be like this. I'm coming back next week. My life is starting to feel different. Like I can make a difference. What I thought was important really isn't and I can't explain what's happening to me.

"In the past 18 months, he has experienced a failed marriage, a lost job, disillusionment with "religion" and a severe case of depression. He was lost, hurting, directionless and has a new hope and compass as a result of the message he heard and the service he experienced at GCC over the past two weeks. What a cool thing to witness. Praise God. We're so unworthy and so grateful to call this our church."

This is what it's all about...using a language people can understand to introduce them to a life in Christ.
